Change Has Come to Medium--Your Views and Reads Should Increase!!

All articles starting yesterday are being distributed by Medium’s new algorithm. The stats page will no longer say “Chosen for Further Distribution.”

Humans still will monitor the process, but mostly it is being done by the software now. Medium is serious about getting articles in front of the people who want to read them.

So, your behavior on Medium is being observed for the purposes of getting articles you want to read.

Myself, I have seen a significant upward trend, so from my perspective the algorithm is doing its job.

All the same, if you can use some big category tags in your stories, do so: life, politics, writing, religion, and science are a few. Eliminate typos because that can ruin an article’s reach.

Get good quality photos from unsplash, pexels, and pixabay. Wikipedia can also get you great photos, but if you get a photo off of Wikipedia, check to see if you need to attribute the author (it’s right there on the download page for the photo).

Medium should be better for authors because their articles should now be getting better reach. Medium should now be better for readers because the algorithm should do a better job of getting wanted articles in front of their eyes.

Is there a loser in this? The only one I see is the big name authors. I didn’t see anything about promoting individual authors--it’s now all content and topic driven. Yay for the little author (hey, that’s me).
