Creationism holds that God created people and animals in their current form they call a kind. Each kind has offspring after its own kind. They now only allow for micro-evolution, which is small changes within a kind because science has shown such changes irrefutably. So, the stance for creationism is still largely unchanging.
Evolution is change. Speciation occurs. We have directed evolution now, which will allow for us to save our coral reefs due to bleaching. Evolution is no longer a "theory." It is now an application with tangible results.
To say that God used creationism with evolution built in is to deny the perfect creations of God, which is creationism's point (an invalid point btw). God's creations are perfect because God did it. So, changing them is not needed.
Nevertheless, at least some Christians acknowledge evolution. That is progress.
