This is a conversation I had with Advanced Google Gemini where it tried to defend determinism for quite a bit until I brought the house down!
I would like Determinism classified as a pseudoscience.
Some consider determinism to be pseudoscience because it’s impossible to test and falsify. It is a philosophical view, not a scientific theory.
Can philosophical views be incorrect?
Yes, absolutely! While philosophy deals with subjective questions and interpretations, it’s not just a matter of opinion. Philosophical views can be:
- Logically flawed: A philosophical argument can contain contradictions, fallacies, or inconsistencies that render it invalid.
- Incoherent: Sometimes a philosophical viewpoint can create a framework that ultimately doesn’t make sense within its own rules.
- Unsupported by evidence: While philosophy doesn’t always rely on empirical evidence in the same way science does, it often draws upon reason, observation, and our understanding of the world. If a philosophical view clashes with these, it can be considered incorrect.
