I have thought about this. There's a lot of neuronal activity with the myriad firings going on. Conciousness is an emergent property of this cacophony.

The consiousness can then exhibit free will and send a signal back into the firing morass of neurons to which the body responds appropriately.

This is a natural explanation not requiring the invoking of a god.
