I Was in a Major Car Crash!!
The Police Said I Was at Fault
I am going to argue that I was not at fault, and that the driver of the red vehicle in the picture above was at fault.
First, this photo was taken about a half hour after the crash. I am taking the photo from inside the police car. I was told to wait there for my “paperwork.” My paperwork was a ticket for $165 for failure to yield to oncoming traffic. It’s a civil infraction. I will have to set up a time for that very soon in the legal system.
There are several factors in this photo that can be observed. It is still a little foggy in the picture, but a half hour before it was even foggier. The red vehicle didn’t have its headlights on (according to my memory of seeing it just come out of the fog for a split second before impact, This alone would have likely allowed me to see it and not start turning left. I own the white van above, and I was turning left in this intersection. The red vehicle was coming straight through the intersection in the toward the camera direction, not left or right as the orientation of the car would have you believe.
Because I was turning in the intersection, I couldn’t have been going very fast — 5 or 10 mph. Yet, look at how smashed up my car is. The red car was going so fast that after the impact, it caused the back end of that vehicle to…
