If God Exists, How Are We Responsible?

Believing in God is the ultimate abdication of responsibility. I hear it all the time — the Lord works in mysterious ways. Let me translate this for you — the Lord wanted it done (whether it was good or bad), so I cannot question it. So, you are assigning the responsibility of this to the Lord, and you have then abdicated your own interest or concern in it.

Being an atheist is different. We know there isn’t this omnipotent, omnibenevolent, supernatural being that loves us so much that He kills millions of innocent children each year. But, we (i.e. the believers) just say it was the Lord’s will. And, presto, we have nothing more to do.

Even if a tragedy strikes close to home (i.e. with family or friends), we (again, the believers) just say I will pray for you. Sometimes, we (the believers) add in a comforting “brother.”

Well, that shit just doesn’t get it. Sometimes, people have real problems with addiction or death or the loss of job with impending homelessness. An, “I’ll pray for you, Brother.” just leaves the downtrodden with a sickening feeling. They might just need to vent a little or maybe a little cash might be just the bump they need to get them over the top.

I have lately been constructing arguments against God and the supernatural. I have proven that stuff doesn't exist with science equations. I aspire to be great.
