A Short Story of Faith and Science
Cameron Falkner is a math teacher at the Santa Domingo High School. He is firmly a science person. He keeps abreast of new scientific advancements in various fields through the subscription journals he subscribes to. His wife Jenny was a nurse who worked way too much. She pulled a double shift too many times recently, and she fell asleep at the wheel while driving home last night. She just drifted off the road and drove into the lake. She wasn’t able to get out of the car and drowned inside. Now, Cameron was going to have to finish raising Becky, their daughter, by himself; but since Becky was already 17, he didn’t have much more to go.
Pastor Carlisle is quite sad because his wife Sally just left him. They’d had it out last night. She was upset with him again for putting his faith in the Lord. Things happened with her over the years they were married, and she had become an atheist, much to his surprise. Pastor Carlisle’s belief in the Lord was unshakeable, and he had signed the divorce papers believing the Lord would watch over them all — including Sally.
