How to Prove Something

Can you prove that? The methods of proof over the centuries has evolved into a very fine craft. For those of us who know how to do it, we can create forceful arguments that cannot be defeated because of something we call a sound argument.

Now, there may be people with more authority than us who shoot it down anyway, not out of correctness — no, a sound argument is not defeated by another argument that is somehow more correct. Rather, it is defeated by other means outside the scope of the argument. But, constructing such an argument requires some skill, and knowledge of this skill can be useful is defeating invalid and unsound arguments like what we find in pseudo-science and religion.
